Cureus, Director of Product Design & UX

February 2013 - November 2017

Cureus a highly innovative Open Access self-publishing platform for doctors and scientists. While here, I led and executed all aspects of research and design from the ground up for four major releases of the product. Co-leading a team with the CTO of 5-7 people, I worked along side the CEO to set the vision, establish monthly, yearly and long-term company-wide objectives and goals, and then implement, test and measure every effort and product feature to best utilize our small team. By introducing creative solutions in both product and marketing, I helped grow the platform from less than a few hundred users to more than 10,000 active users (100,000+ registered) worldwide, and published content grew from approximately one hundred articles to more than 1,500 peer-reviewed scientific articles creating a monthly growth rate of 300% within 3 years. Additionally, we went from zero to >$300,000 in revenue within eighteen months in a very challenging space. Under my leadership, the product achieved indexing in PubMed Central (National Library of Medicine) and various other indexing services. As the primary product leader in a lean startup environment, I helped to seek initial Series A funding, established organizational, design, marketing and reporting processes and best practices.

Initially brought on as the Creative Director to help establish and guide the re-branded company and product offering, I soon transitioned into the product design lead where I handled all aspects of research and design in an Agile development environment. I was responsible for understanding and interpreting business needs and aligning them with design efforts. As the solo designer, I worked closely with a team of six developers to build, test, validate and iterate on major and iterative product launches. My efforts in creating a reporting dashboard for our clients to measure their brand impressions on social media channels helped the company become profitable faster, and sparked new ideas and features for future iterations. I led the design efforts for three major versions of the Social Chorus platform.

Gap, Senior Designer

February 2011 - August 2011

Started as a contract Senior Designer for the Gap and Banana Republic outlet brands, but soon became a full time employee where I worked on window displays, in-store signage, POS, packaging, and eventually led the email marketing campaign designs for multiple in-house brands.

Tolleson, Contract Senior Designer

August 2009 - December 2010

Brought in to help re-brand Palm Inc. and create new, exciting marketing materials for trade shows, in-store POS, environmental marketing. The success of this project lead to continual on-site projects for Adobe, VMWare, Gap, and others.
